JS Tip 537: What Every Leader Must Do
It’s been a while since we talked about the leadership imperatives.
This Tip is prompted by repeated discussions with good people who are losing faith in their leadership.
The imperatives are—
Get the job done.
Take care of your people.
You can’t get the job done unless you take care of your people.
You can’t take care of your people unless you get the job done.
The crux of leadership is within these two imperatives. How can we take care of our people and get the job done?
We begin by focusing on long-term results and not on short-term gains. We invest not only in our equipment, but in our employees. We spend time with them. We talk with them. We listen to them. We give them respect and consideration. We value them.
Karma comes into play, or the “law of return,” or “What goes around, comes around.” The investment produces loyalty. Loyalty produces long-term results.
The return on investment is there.
It’s real.
Do it.
