JS Tip 7: Keep a "Brag File"
A "Brag File" is where you keep your greatest professional accomplishments. You don't want to fumble for an answer when a boss or an interviewer asks why you deserve the raise, the promotion, or the new job you’re interviewing for.
You need to provide specific details on things you've done that have directly benefitted the company: “I worked on the Kobayashi Maru scenario that netted the company $3 million.” “I helped design the Genesis Project; we improved productivity by 18 percent.”
Keeping a brag file will help you remember these details. Be proud of what you've done but whatever you do, don't embellish.
There's a saying that goes: "If you've done it, it ain't braggin'."
If you have a hint, tip, or trick that has helped you, send it our way. We may include it in a future Tip of the Week.
